I’m 54 years old. There’s rarely been a time in my life when my weight was not an issue. Since childhood, it’s literally been an emotional roller coaster for me. I slimmed down in early adolescence, then experienced the typical yo-yo syndrome. I can peg the rise and fall of my weight to where I was within a relationship. Sound familiar to anyone? If I was “between” relationships, I would “get healthy,” but once I got comfortable, the pounds would pack back on. That’s been my life until now. I was losing weight for the benefit of others, not for myself. I’m tired of feeling “tired all the time.” I wasn’t sleeping well, I had no energy, and I was addicted to all that unhealthy, processed fast food. Even though I love to cook, I was caught up in the convenience of having something already prepared.
One day at work I found a Gosrani Optimal Health flyer lying on my desk. When I’d read it, I knew this was exactly what I needed to make permanent changes in my life. Aside from knowing Dr. Gosrani as a colleague, I knew he would be the type of advisor who would help me achieve my goals within this process. His wellness program is atypical: it doesn’t focus entirely on weight loss. Instead, the program encourages a complete lifestyle change. Through positive reinforcement, monitoring of serum levels, structured exercise, hormone replacement and the elimination of unhealthy processed food, the program gives you the tools necessary to achieve an overall sense of emotional and physical wellness. The only time I step on a scale is in Dr. Gosrani’s office. I know I’m making strides in the right direction from the loose way my clothes fit. I’m resting better and I look forward to going to the gym.
Recently, I saw my primary physician. I’d lost 12 pounds since my previous visit and my HgbA1C went from 6.3 to 5.3! She was totally supportive and encouraged by my progress — as was I! My goal is to get off of all the prescription medications I take for “metabolic syndrome” (hypertension, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia). I want to enjoy life in ways I’ve not yet experienced, like hiking and rock climbing. I know Gosrani Optimal Health will help me achieve these goals.
