Before I even knew there was a question, before it was even a possibility, Dr. Gosrani’s program was the answer.
I have trained in karate for most of my life. Even before I started formal karate training, I was in love with the principle. When I began my training in high school, I weighed about 300 lbs. Through training, I learned many principles of health and fitness. In college, I decided I was done being overweight and went on a low-fat diet that helped me lose over 100 lbs.
Unfortunately, when at the end of that period I hadn’t done much to change my body composition. Yes, I was smaller but I didn’t feel that I’d affected my overall health other than reducing my size. I was smaller and weaker than before. Years later, I became a karate student and friend of Kyoshi Vic Coffin. To say he reinforced everything I’d ever been told about health and fitness is an understatement. When I began to understand what it really meant to be fit, I realized that I wasn’t as fit as I thought I was. As a matter of fact, I wasn’t as fit as the people in this world thought I was. When training with Sensei Coffin, I learned to cycle and for a while, I cycled alot. People who saw or heard about what I did would say things like, “you are the most active person I know,” or “you are the healthiest person I know.” and for a while, I believed them. Deep down, I knew I wasn’t as fit as I could be. I knew there had to be more to fitness than what I had achieved. It wasn’t until I enrolled in Dr. G’s program that my wake-up call slapped me in the face!
When I first enrolled in the program, I tested into Dr. G’s highest physical fitness class. This was a result of what I knew about the physical activity side of being healthy. When I went to get my BMI scan done, I was extremely disappointed to find out that I was >30% body fat. This was proof that I was doing something wrong. Honestly, there’s nothing in Dr. G’s program that I hadn’t heard before in one way or another. We are bombarded with information about health, much of which is contradictory because it comes from different sources with different principles emphasizing different aspects. All this leaves people confused about how to actually be healthy. At this point, I decided that Gosrani Optimal Health was the answer.
The suggestions lifestyle changes that Dr. G[osrani] suggests are based on research studies that correlate diet and exercise habits to longevity and quality of life. As I said before, there is nothing in his program that was new to me, but his program wraps all the information one would need to be healthy into one program that (after a few lifestyle change adjustments) is straightforward, and easy to follow. It’s really important to have absolute confidence in the methodology: the Gosrani Optimal Health program does not promise that you’ll be “in the best shape of your life in 90 days or less!!” It’s not a gimmick or a fad. It is a program that works. As I learned in karate years ago, there’s no way to improve your technique and skill by changing your ideas on how you train (do a little of this and a little of that). You improve through diligence. Trust in your training is the key to practicing so that you improve. Dr. G’s research-based approach makes it logical to trust in the program. It’s easier to make the right decisions day after day so that they become habits, and those habits become a new lifestyle. Now, you’re just living, but your body seems to improve almost spontaneously because of the way you’re living.
Jessica and I have been on Dr. G’s program for almost five months. The challenges to making a conscious lifestyle change have passed and now we enjoy the “side-effects” of improving health. I’ve lost almost 20 lbs. I look and feel healthier than I have at any previous time in my life. Jessica has lost over 25 lbs. and she’s so excited about what she’ll be capable of accomplishing with this program. She went from a relatively sedentary routine to weekly strength workouts, cardio training, and swimming classes that she enjoys! There are times when she wishes her body would change faster, but the changes are steady and the time is going to fly! She plans to compete in her first triathlon in the spring and with Dr. G’s program, she’ll be ready for it! The program has taught us to live healthy. We signed up for the program as quickly as it was available and I’m glad we didn’t waste a second making excuses about starting. With the changes we’ve seen, we’re miles ahead of where we’d be if we were doing the same old thing with the same old limitations. We’re very excited to see where we go from here!
